We are actors not spectators in the garden which provides a place of calm and appeasement.
We have investigated the history of gardening within urban environments. The Cityculteurs have come to the conclusion that reinstating the natural world within our daily lives is an urgent goal: the garden should be there for people rather than the opposite: for visitors to spend time in, alone or with others. This is why in our gardens we will be proposing other artistic activities and practical workshops to the public on a regular basis.
Our arts and handicraft workshops are taught with modern and easily accessible teaching techniques for a better understanding of the subject. The workshops are all garden-themed; plant-based cooking or perfume-making, as well as creating your own plant-based cosmetics. These creative activities are fun, practical and educational focused on gardens. We aim to give pragmatic uses to plants in daily life and increase environmental awareness of our heritage through these activities.
The Cityculteurs have the ambition to create healing gardens in France; these gardens can provide a purposeful activity for someone coping with a difficult period in their life. In the US and the UK, horthitherapy has been common practice for a number of years. Gardening can help individuals in care to accomplish many things. It can help rebuild a person’s strength after an accident or illness.
This method has notably been recognised to benefit those with difficulty in communicating. We see gardens as a new way to communicate.
Our initiatives aim to accompany traditional healthcare, whilst contributing to humanise the aesthetics of medical delivery centres.
